Delco-Remy Condenser 1869704

The condenser (capacitor) is wired in parallel with the contact breaker points. It suppresses arcing when the points open, protects the contact surfaces and ensures a strong spark. Typical signs of a faulty condenser are badly burnt points, misfiring and a weak spark.

We recommend replacing the condenser and the points together.
